Good-Bye, Grandma

I put this one Facebook, but it's funny enough to post here, too.

Poor Grandma, she suffered a long time, but she finally got to go to Jesus and to Grandpa last Sunday night a little after 6:00 p.m. Back in her day, she liked nothing better than a good funeral. Even if she never met the person who died, if she so much as chatted with a relative of the deceased in the grocery store line once (okay, I'm exaggerating a smidge) she was there. See, what Grandma knew, is something I'm just now starting to get the jest of. We living go to funerals not for the deceased, but for the living left behind. Except on that rare occasion when you go to pay tribute to someone you knew well but didn't know their family, say, like a hair dresser would go to her client's.

There were lots of people at the viewing and at the funeral. It's a small church and she packed the house! Way to go, G-ma! She would have loved seeing so many people in that little bitty church of hers.

In typical TV or movie fashion, Wednesday was a beautiful warm, sunshiney day. Friday was colder, but nice and sunshiney. But, Thursday, the day of the funeral, was rain, rain, rain. At least it wasn't cold rain. It wasn't like a nice summer shower, but it didn't have an icy bite to it either.

Ok, now to the funny part. During the church service, I sat between my sister in law and my aunt from the other side of my family. The guy on the stage who sang a special, kept saying "Aaaameeeennnn" and he sounded just like this guy in OUR church who says it exactly the same way! The only thing is, the guy from my church has brain damage. It kind of loses it's hilarity when I write it, especially since I keep interrupting myself to do other things, like send/receive a text, clip some coupons. Now I'm getting ready to go to lunch.

But, pictures us, scrunched up, smashed into a pew, trying our HARDEST to not laugh and failing miserably. There was one of my friends from my church there and he was sitting across the room from me. We made eye contact, I knew he knew what I was thinking and we both lost it!

I could just see my grandma giving us that look. Half scowl half grin. And saying "I'ma gonna wring you girls' necks!" I can just HEAR it!

Anyway, the long wait for this inevitable has finally come to an end. She's happy and so are the rest of us for her.

This picture is of her last month on her 90th birthday. I think it might have been the last picture taken of her. It turned out so good. Even though she was "turning 33 years old that day and that wasn't her in that picture there was something wrong with my camera".

This Picture is Much Nicer To Look At, Right?

Isn't my daughter beautiful? She took this picture of herself on my phone when I was taking a nap. I didn't even know about it until way later when she told me to look.

This is the back of Mike's calf. Staph infections are not a good thing. Don't mess around with them.

3-D

Shael took me out to see a movie, or two, the other night. We saw Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3-D. At first it was really neat, but I have to admit, by then end, I wasn't even noticing that it was in 3-D anymore. But, still worth going to see. I never saw either movie on the big screen, and they are very funny and clever movies. Here's a picture of Shael and me in our "birth control glasses", as my friend was so nice to describe them. Glasses so ugly, that if you wear them, you will never get laid. I'm thinking of trading Shael's contacts in for a pair of these. LOL

Wait....What?

I just found out that some of my classmates are GRANDPARENTS.

That is messed up!

I think I liked Switchfoot before it was cool to like Switchfoot. Now they are a little more mainstream and it's just not the same. What's up with me? Why am I weird like that? They sound pretty much the same. Their songs are different, though. It's like they've sold out, trying to gain high public opinion instead of high God opinion. The lead singer is looking more and more like Curt Cobain, weird. I'm being judgemental, I will shut up about that now.

Shael and I went to a concert in Tulsa last night. It was in two words....FRICKIN AWESOME! Shael didn't like the first two bands, but she's not too much into "scream-o" music, as she calls it. The first band played three songs. They're a new band that none of us around our seats had heard of. They were called "The Letter Black". It was a woman screamer! I thought they were pretty good, myself. A little rough for sure, but with much potential.

The second band was Decyfer Down. I really like them, but last night they only played one song that I knew. "Concerts aren't as fun when you don't know every song". That's what Shael said when we got home. I think I agree.

The third band was (drum roll please!!) Hawk Nelson. Who played a long time. I knew almost every song, but they had some from their latest album that I wasn't familiar with and some from that album that I was only slightly familiar with because of radio play. It was really fun, they knew how to play up a crowd. "How's everybody in Tulsa?" "We love you Tulsa" No fireworks, just a great band playing great songs.

Then the headliner...Skillet. Fire, smoke, sparks, hydraulics, they had it all. A cellist and a violinist were also present to play. Have you ever watched a cellist and a violinist rock out? Head banging while playing? It's a sight to behold. They did a great show, too. I don't know how long they played, but it was a long time. I was starting to yawn in the midst of all that ruckus. I'm such an old fart!

I'm posting the only picture I took of Shael and I and it was taken before everything started and there were hardly even any people in there. We were very close to being the first in there. That was kinda cool. We got to sit and watch the place fill up. It was a sold out show. The SpiritBank Event Center isn't as big as the BOK by ANY means. It's a basketball stadium. But, there's still lots of seating and then the floor. It was full to capacity.
And the picture is fuzzy! After I took it, though, she wouldn't let me take another one of her. Teenage girls. One second they're posing like crazy and are total hams in front of the camera, the next they don't want their face to be seen by anything resembling a camera lens.

We had such a good time. I'm very glad we went. I even saw someone I went to high school with at a Quick Trip going out of Tulsa on our way home. Hadn't seen him in a long time. In so long, in fact, he asked what Mike's been up to. More awkward for him than for me, though.

Well, I actually have a few things I need to do around here. Might take me a whole thirty minutes to get finished.

Adios!

You've Got Me & Jesus

People are Ignorant

I hate seeing advertisements for animal cruelty prevention. Or to help animals that have been "victims". Yes, it's a terrible thing, when animals get treated cruelly. What about the people!? I know I've been on this soap box before but it's bothering me again.
Genesis 4:6 says "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground" God heard one man's blood crying out, one man who had been killed by his brother. Can you imagine what God hears now? Now that the whole earth is full of people, and how many people are being killed senselessly, some even by their brothers? Then there are the babies that are being aborted every day. How many? How much blood is crying out to God right now?
So don't try to play with my emotions by showing me pictures of skinny dogs and cats, bears that have rings in their noses. Don't bother me with save this animal, or same that animal. Or even save the trees. When people are more concerned about the safety of a TREE than they are a human life, then they are ignorant. And that's being nice. Maybe they are just plain stupid.

Bored Now

It's official. They took away my fb. People ruin things for the rest of us when they abuse a good thing. I understand why it had to be taken away, and I really don't want to complain, especially since the guy who did it was just doing his job. But, man, this blows! I'm down to posting from my phone which just isn't the same. I can't see as much as I see from my big ole computer screen. This might be the very thing that edges me to buy a computer. Forget a TV, I want a computer. I don't know if I'll be able to afford it, so I will have to check in on it. How much internet will cost me and everything that is involved. Things are pretty tight, so I probably will have to wait a while. But, a girl can dream.

I went down to the University yesterday to get a few things done. As I was sitting in the admissions office, this group of young high school seniors who are looking at coming to The University of Arkansas next year came in as a tour with their parents. I thought it was quite funny because the parents looked way more apprehensive than the kids. The place is rather huge and intimidating,(since I can't get my link to work, I think the page is too old, check out October 2008 in my archives on the one titled "First Day Of School") so I'm sure those parents were thinking "My baby is going to be swallowed at a place this size!" and the kids were thinking "I can't wait to be on my own here!" Shael came with me and twice she got mistaken for the student and me the nervous parent. Hey, I resemble that remark. She kept remarking on how big the place was and how she didn't want to go to a school that size. Her comparison was Wyandotte. Poor child. I need to take her out more. "This place is just a college and it's bigger than the whole town of Wyandotte!" And you know what? She's absolutely right.

I got my transcript, which I've been needing for a long time and they never would get back to me about. I got my application filled out and turned in. Now I need to do a couple more piddly things and I will be good to go for enrolling. I can't wait!!! I'm excited.

I took a picture of Shael sitting on Spoofer's Stone at the University. It has a neat history. I just read it yesterday. I'd read it before, but yesterday was a refresher course. Back when Old Main was being built, there were pieces of granite all over the construction site. When it was over, there was this large piece left over, so large they decided to leave it. It was all jagged and had some cracks in it. In those early days of the University, the girls and the guys were not allowed to interact on campus, so sweethearts would leave notes for each other in the cracks of the stone. A few years later, the students (women students) were afraid for the integrity of the stone, so they had it fixed with mortar to make sure it lasted longer. They also put a plaque up to honor the stone. That's my abridged version of the story. It was much sweeter and longer at the school. Here's a picture of Shael sitting on it.

I'm In A Pink Mood Today

I've got Pink playing on imeem today. Then I started looking at pictures of her on the internet. It started out as looking at her hair because she always gives me inspiration for the next style I may want. As I was looking and listening to her, I got to thinking "Wow, I really like Pink!" She's got this really great, scratchy voice that is reminiscent of Janice Joplin. Her hair is never the same, and for that alone she receives kudos from me. She has a nose ring and she actually wears a HOOP (like me! yay, I'm not the only one!) Even "So What" was my mantra for a while.
So, what should I think of this? I was telling my friend, Adam, that one might think I had a girl crush on her. I wasn't intentionally trying to be like her, or look like her. No one could. But I meant the platinum faux hawk and nose ring. If I had a body like her, I would dress like a total SLUT! So, it's such a good thing that I don't. LOL
I'm really getting tired of my hair. I haven't changed it up in a while and it's really boring in the first place. It was really dark at first but has since faded to my natural color. How boring is that? I can have my natural color anytime! I want something unnatural. Is that too much to ask?
Okay, my day is quickly coming to an end here. I'm working only a half day because of silly doctor stuff. I hate having to get blood work done, but that's life. Especially mine. I haven't had to get it done in a few months, though, so wow! I was on a roll.
I'm out of here people. Have a great and wonderful weekend. And Columbus day if you are one of those lucky government workers like myself who get the day off.

Relient K

I can't believe these are the boys who sing the songs that mean SO MUCH to me! I'm going to go straight home and see if they are the ones who write those lyrics. They look like teenagers! Who knows, maybe this picture is 10 years old. LOL.
I don't know them, but I love their music, therefore, I love them. Even if I hated their music, I suppose I would still love them as people. Silly me.

I think I'm in LOVE!

Howdy, Folks!

Vacuum cleaner got put together for me, but hasn't been used yet. I've hardly spent enough time at home to do anything! I get a load of laundry done here, a load there. Shael likes having the washer & dryer, too. She does as much laundry as I do.
Well, the mammogram was a total piece of cake! It was nothing like what I thought it was going to be like. It didn't hurt, was only mildly uncomfortable, and the only thing I didn't like was the embarrassment of having my boobs exposed to some woman I didn't know. She would open the door for something and leave it open and I would be shucking back into the gown as quickly as possible because on the other side of that door was people just walking back and forth, or loitering for a while talking to each other. Yeah, CLOSE THE DOOR!
The ultrasound was about the worst experience ever. I cried. I literally cried! Real tears running down my cheekers and everything. It hurt really bad. They did the normal ultrasound, which I was okay with even though it felt like I was going to pee all over them. But after that, they agreed I needed a vaginal ultrasound. When I got out of the bathroom they had this "wand" ready for me. It was about 18 inches long and was covered by a condom! They squirted K-Y Jelly all over it and proceeded to torture me. I have kind of a big cyst on my right ovary, some fibrous material somewhere in there and a uterus that is tilted so far, it's like it's backward. All of which contributed to the pain. I kept asking "Why is it hurting like this?" Left side didn't hurt, just felt a little disconcerting having this woman use this thing that looked like a long, thin dildo on me. When they moved over to the right side, I was flinching even though I tried my hardest not to. It felt as if I was getting raped and the thing had suddenly went from a long thin dildo to a large latex fist. The whole time the tech kept saying "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Oh, I'm so sorry! It's almost done! I'm sorry!"
The best part was, I had those two appointments and was done in an hour and 15 minutes. It took me longer to drive down there than it did to have both things done.

Last Saturday I got to go to Fayetteville to the Bikes, Blues and BBQ. I had fun, but not lots. The reason being we didn't get to stay long enough. I didn't even get to look at one single vendor. I was disappointed in that, but oh well. They were all worried about getting home early enough before it got cold. A bunch of bike owners that aren't real bikers. Real bikers know to bring their leathers and they can ride in the cold. I was the only one who wore chaps. Buncha wannabes.

Yesterday, I took a personal day and went to SDC on the bike. It was cold when we started, but once again, the leathers protected me, I was okay. My driver was freezing. He doesn't have a windshield, I don't know how he stands that. The seat on his bike is so completely uncomfortable that we need butt breaks about every 20 miles. LOL. He's going to get a different seat. We didn't stay at SDC very long, but we really enjoyed ourselves. It was a relaxed trip, even though I had to be back by 7:00 for church, we didn't rush around or feel the need to squeeze as much as we could in a few hours like Shael is always compelled to do. We walked around leisurely, looking at whatever we wanted, rode rides we wanted and had no waiting time, and when our time was up, we simply left. Not feeling like we had missed out because we ran out of time. We had so much fun. The ride back was better because the windey roads were first and we weren't saddle sore yet and could enjoy them. On the way there, our butts were hurting so bad all we could think about was "how much further?" and how we couldn't wait to get off that bike. lol.

By the way, I made it to church at 6:50.
